FAQ
One of our main goals of this site is to make it simple to use, but of course some things that appear straightforward to us can easily be misinterpreted by others!
Below is a list questions that we’ve been asked enough either over the forums or via PM’s that we think they deserve being written down for others to find. If the answer you are looking for isn’t here, please feel free to make a post on the forums concerning it, or PM me with your question. Don’t be shy!
How do I add an avatar to my account?
To add an avatar:
- Go to your Profile page and select the edit function.
- In the edit section, there are three headings at the top of the page:
Account Settings, Personal, and Privacy. Click Account Settings. - You'll find the option to add an avatar under Picture options.
Why can’t I upload any more than 6 photos per costume?
We decided that a total of 6 photos would be a good number to be able to upload. This allows you to give several different views of your costume and at the same time persuades you to pick the best 6. Quality over quantity, as the saying goes!
Do I have to upload a reference picture?
No, the choice is completely yours! Some sites ban reference images while others encourage them to help you show off how accurate your costume is to the original design. You may wish to add reference pictures while the costume is in the planning stage, perhaps to show others who may not know the costume? Keep in mind that reference pictures are included in your total of 6 pictures that you are able to upload, but also that you can replace them with pictures of your costume once it is finished.
This is your cosplay portfolio, you fill it how you wish!
Can I help with the site in any way?
At the moment we’re a very small site with a small team, but of course the aim is to expand as much as we can, and provide all sorts of exciting content on the site! So just because we aren’t actively asking for people right now doesn’t mean we wont require help in the future.
Have you had writing experience, or feel passionately about something related to cosplay that you *just* have to let others know about? Have you got a really cool idea for additional content for Cosplay Island and would be willing to take responsibility for it? If so, please PM me with your ideas and we can discuss how you can be part of the site.
Also, we know there are a lot of very talented cosplayers here, why not share your knowledge? If you have found a really good method of creating armour, or even learnt how to defy gravity…let us know! We are accepting tutorials for any subject that is relating to cosplay, whether it be from a construction point of view, photography or even down to simple posing tips.
Check out our tutorial section to see the types of submissions we already have! Which leads us onto the next question...
How can I submit a tutorial?
In the future we intend to implement an all-singing all-dancing submission form for you to be able to submit tutorials, but for now we are doing it the old fashioned way! Please email us at support@cosplayisland.com with your tutorial. If it includes images, we ask that you zip them up and attach them along with the tutorial, with clear indication of where the photos should go within the text.
